When the email landed in my inbox from Robert's Daughter, Elena who's destination wedding I previously photographed in Iceland, asking if I would be available to capture her Father, Roberts marriage to Gertrud in Austria, I couldn't reply quick enough. Their wedding was so full of love and fun that I knew spending another day with her existing and now extended family would be a fabulous affair. It did not disappoint. From first communicating with Robert and Gertrud about their nuptials in Austria, I just get this feeling of warmth and fondness that makes my job an absolute pleasure.
Destination weddings are my absolute favourite and as I left the city of Vienna, Austria to drive about an hour away, the landscape began to change and even with the rain that was currently falling, spirits were not dampened as I was surrounded by the beautiful Austrian countryside. Thankfully, the rain wouldn't last and the forecast for the following day was very promising indeed.
A beautiful vineyard in the Wachu region of Austria hosted the first day of this magical two day celebration for Robert and Gertrud's wedding in Austria. The night before brought rainclouds and thunderstorms that gave way to the scorching sun of an early Austrian Summer that would last for the entire celebration.
We began in the local town of Emmersdorf where the guests gathered for the official, legal ceremony which would kick off a wonderful weekend of celebrations, beautiful locations, magical, old-time bus rides and wonderful people. If you are planning a wedding elopement in the future, Austria should definitely be high up on your list of potential destinations.
The glorious weather held for the second day of this fantastic gathering and the day itself did not disappoint. Schloss Luberegg next to Landhotel Wachau hosted the celebrations and this beautiful Austrian Castle presented a wonderful backdrop for a ceremony filled with love, speeches from friends, a piano playing Bride and guitar playing Groom who unknowingly serenaded each other with the same song choice! Truly a perfect match.
They couldn't have chosen two better locations for a fabulous, Austrian destination wedding with magnificent views, perfect backdrop and a wonderful collection of friends and family.
